Create a Lasting Impact
Establishing or supporting an endowed fund is a meaningful way to support PSU in perpetuity.

Endowed vs. Current-Use
- An Endowed gift is typically a large dollar donation to create or support an endowed fund, with the intent that the original value will grow over time. The funds are invested and appreciation of the gift can be paid out to support the fund's purpose. Any additional earnings are then used to build the fund's market value.
- A Spendable gift (sometimes referred to as "payout" or "Current Use") is a donation meant to be used in its entirety right away. These gifts make an immediate impact at Portland State.

Money contributed to an endowed fund is invested and can grow in value over time. Distributions are made out of the fund according to the donor's wishes, which the Foundation helps facilitate.
Endowed funds ensure that a scholarship, professorship or program continues for generations to come.
Current-use funds are not invested. Gifts can be used at any time and often support urgent or emerging needs.
In general, we recommend gifts under $1,000 go to support current-use funds. This ensures that your gift can make an immediate impact at Portland State.
